Project Overview

The Welsh Government needed to replace their legacy IPTV and digital signage system. Their main criteria were finding an easily updatable, remotely manageable solution to their requirement for streaming national TV news services alongside their signage application but with minimal on-premises hardware. The project was being led by a consulting firm which was advising the Welsh Government and acting as the primary System Integrator. They approached Amino based on recommendations and knowledge of Amino's suitable devices and huge depth of knowledge of video and IPTV.

Project Requirements

1. Replace legacy IPTV and digital signage system with an easily updatable, remotely manageable solution for streaming national TV news services.
2. Minimize on-premises hardware and eliminate the need for satellite dishes, antennae and specialist broadcast receivers.
3. Reduce capital expenditure and maintenance costs while removing the need for specialist broadcast equipment knowledge.
4. Enable cloud-based management of all devices and content with remote diagnostics capabilities.

Amino's Solution

The H200 media-player was able to deliver both the signage requirements and IPTV decoding on the same platform and was an obvious choice as a client device.

• Amino suggested reducing on-premises components to simply use the H200 media-player with all other components hosted in cloud, sourcing content from the cloud and streaming unicast services over the IP network.
• Management of the media players would be moved to the cloud using the Amino Orchestrate platform, allowing remote management of all aspects of software deployment, configuration, remote diagnostics and the ability to view what is on the screen of each media player.
• Amino introduced Stream Republic, a leading supplier of managed media services, to provide content acquisition and delivery using their existing downlink and transcoding platform for unicast IP delivery using HLS and DASH.
